Women's ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships
See my post on the Men's Championships for some of the factors that impact performances. This is what I see for the Women:
1) The team score will be a cat fight. I've got FSU-97, Miami-91, VT-90, NC State-82 all with a shot at winning the team championship. They are followed by UL-63, Clemson-52, ND-44, Duke-39, UVa-27, followed by the rest.
2) Our key performers:
a) Rachel Pocratsky is favored to win both the 800 and mile (20 projected points). Sarah Edwards is tied with the best time in the mile (8).
b) Kennedy Davis is projected to place in both sprints (8).
c) Sara Freix should place in both the 3K and 5K (6).
d) Rachel Baxter will battle with a Hoo in the pole vault (8). My money is on Rachel.
e) Ester Bajnok should win the triple jump and place in the long jump (14).
f) Look for Arlicia Bush and Nykah to place in the 400 (6).
g) Our distance medley relay is seeded first (10).
2) Like the men, FSU is loaded in the sprints; 46 projected points of their 97 total. Add in the 60 hurdles for 12 more.
3) Miami is loaded in the 400 (16 points), high jump (14), 60 hurdles (13), shot put (11) plus they are favored in the 4x400 relay (10) and pentathlon (10).
4) NC State is strong in the mile, 3K and 5K (not surprising since they are the champions in cross-country) for 35 projected points, they are strong in the weights (18) and in the sprints (9).
5) The men and women alternate events throughout the competition.
6) We are projected to score in 12 of 17 events; Miami is the only other team to match this total.
7) Go Hokies!
